5 Ways to Build Community Connection as an NDIS Participant

Uncategorized

Social connection is one of the most powerful contributors to health and wellbeing — yet for many people with disability, loneliness and social isolation remain daily realities. The good news is the NDIS recognises community participation as a core support, and there are many ways to build genuine connections with the right supports in place.

1. Join a Group or Centre-Based Activity Program

Group activities are one of the most effective ways to meet new people and build social confidence. Crescent Care offers group and centre-based programs in Liverpool and surrounding Western Sydney, including art, cooking, music, fitness, and community excursions — designed to be fun, inclusive, and tailored to participants’ interests.

2. Explore Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering is a powerful way to contribute to your community, build skills, and form meaningful relationships. Many NDIS participants use Community Participation funding to access support while volunteering at local organisations.

3. Participate in Local Events and Festivals

Western Sydney has a vibrant calendar of community events and cultural celebrations. With the support of a community participation worker, you can explore these events safely and enjoyably — building your sense of belonging one outing at a time.

4. Use Technology to Stay Connected

The NDIS can fund support to help you access technology and build digital literacy skills. Video calls, social media, and online hobby groups can all play a meaningful role in reducing isolation, especially for participants with mobility limitations.

5. Work with a Support Coordinator

A good Support Coordinator actively helps you connect with community activities, peer support networks, and local services aligned with your goals. To find out more about our group programs, call us on 1300 95 25 95 or visit us at Level 1/244 Macquarie Street, Liverpool NSW 2170.
