Receiving your first NDIS plan is an exciting milestone — but it can also feel overwhelming. With funding categories, support budgets, and plan management options to understand, many participants and their families aren’t sure where to start. At Crescent Care, we work alongside participants every day to help them understand and maximise their NDIS plans.
What is an NDIS Plan?
An NDIS plan is a personalised document that outlines your disability-related support needs, your goals, and the funding allocated to meet those needs. Your plan is developed in partnership with the NDIA during a planning meeting and reviewed regularly — typically every 12 months.
The Three Funding Categories
- Core Supports — Funding for everyday activities including personal care, household tasks, community participation, and consumables.
- Capacity Building — Funding to help you build skills and independence, including Support Coordination and employment support.
- Capital Supports — Funding for assistive technology, home modifications, and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).
Plan Management Options
- NDIA-Managed — The NDIA pays registered providers directly.
- Plan-Managed — A registered plan manager handles payments, giving you access to registered and unregistered providers.
- Self-Managed — You manage your own funding with maximum flexibility.
