School Leaver Employment Support (SLES)

The step from school to work is one of the biggest transitions a young person makes. SLES gives NDIS participants who are finishing school the skills, experience and confidence to move into employment that is real, lasting and right for them.

Young people with disability meeting and connecting outdoors, building the social skills and confidence for employment

Your real first steps toward a working life

School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) is a dedicated NDIS program for young people in their final year of school, or who have recently left. It is not just about getting a job. It is about building the foundation: the practical skills, workplace confidence and independence that make employment a real and lasting option rather than a distant goal.

Our SLES program is flexible, person-centred, and built around what you actually want to do with your working life. We start with your interests and your strengths, help you practice skills in real environments, and stay in your corner through the whole process. From work experience to travel training to interview preparation, we keep it practical and focused on where you are headed.

  • Job-readiness skills and workplace behaviour
  • Work experience placement and on-site support
  • Resume writing and interview preparation
  • Travel training and independent commuting
  • Money management and workplace routines
  • Goal setting and career direction exploration

How SLES works at Crescent Care

A structured, flexible and completely personalised pathway from school to employment.

Built around your goals

We start with the kind of work that interests you and build from there. Your SLES plan reflects your strengths, your interests and the direction you want to move in.

Real-world skills in real settings

Skills are practiced where they count: actual workplaces and community settings. From daily workplace routines to getting there independently, everything is kept practical.

A consistent support person

Your SLES worker knows your story, tracks your progress and stays with you through the program. You will not be handed from person to person.

Frequently asked questions

Who is SLES for?

SLES is for NDIS participants who are in their final year of school, or who have recently completed school, and who have employment goals in their NDIS plan. If you are not sure whether you qualify, reach out and we will help you check.

How long does the SLES program run?

SLES support can continue for up to two years after leaving school. The program is designed to give young people enough time to properly develop skills and confidence before transitioning to open employment or other supports.

Can SLES lead to a real job?

Yes, that is the goal. SLES is a structured pathway to genuine employment, not a holding pattern. Many participants transition directly into supported or open employment after completing their program.

Ready to build your career path?

If you or someone you care for is finishing school with disability, SLES could be the support that makes employment a real next step. Let us talk about what that looks like.
